Why The Resurrection Matters On The Road To Life (Sermon Blog)

Easter Message

Easter is one of the most widely celebrated days in the world.

  • Churches are full

  • People say, “He is risen!”

  • There is a sense of hope in the air

But for many people, the question remains:

👉 What difference does the resurrection actually make in my life?

Because if it doesn’t change Monday…
Does it really change anything?

In this Easter message, Pastor Steve walks us through the story of the road to Emmaus and shows us why the resurrection isn’t just something to believe—it’s something that transforms how we live.

1. The Road of Despair

When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

Two followers of Jesus are walking away from Jerusalem.

  • Their hopes are shattered

  • Their expectations are gone

  • Their future feels uncertain

They say it plainly:

“We had hoped…”

But now?

👉 There is no hope left

We’ve All Been on This Road

The road to Emmaus represents those moments when:

  • Life doesn’t turn out how you expected

  • Dreams fall apart

  • You feel discouraged or lost

It’s the place where:

👉 Faith feels distant and hope feels gone

Without the resurrection, Scripture says:

  • Our faith is useless

  • Sin still has power

  • Life has no ultimate meaning

2. Jesus Meets Us in Our Despair

Even When We Don’t Recognize Him

As these two men walk, something incredible happens:

👉 Jesus joins them on the road

But they don’t recognize Him.

He listens to their:

  • Disappointment

  • Confusion

  • Fear

This is powerful:

👉 Jesus meets people right in the middle of their pain

You Are Not Walking Alone

Even when you don’t realize it:

  • In your stress

  • In your fear

  • In your uncertainty

👉 Jesus is closer than you think

He listens.
He cares.
He walks with you.

3. Jesus Opens Our Eyes to a Bigger Story

When We Don’t Understand God’s Plan

These men knew Scripture—but misunderstood it.

They expected:

  • A political Messiah

  • Immediate victory

  • Earthly success

But they missed something critical:

👉 The Messiah had to suffer before glory

A Common Mistake

We often want:

  • Blessing without struggle

  • Victory without sacrifice

  • Glory without the cross

But Jesus shows us:

👉 God’s plan is bigger than our expectations

And sometimes what looks like defeat…
Is actually part of God’s greater purpose.

4. The Resurrection Changes Everything

From Despair to Hope

At the moment Jesus breaks bread with them:

👉 Their eyes are opened

Everything changes instantly:

  • Despair turns into hope

  • Fear turns into courage

  • Confusion turns into clarity

They even say:

“Didn’t our hearts burn within us?”

A New Direction

Before encountering Jesus:

  • They were walking away from Jerusalem

After encountering Jesus:

👉 They turn around and go back

Why?

Because the resurrection changes direction.

5. The Resurrection Brings Real Life

Not Just Existence—But True Life

Jesus didn’t just come to make life manageable.

He said:

“I have come that they may have life… to the full.”

This “life” means:

  • Purpose

  • Joy

  • Freedom

  • Security

Not just surviving…

👉 But truly living

The Problem Today

Many people are:

  • Stressed

  • Isolated

  • Searching for meaning

Even in a world of comfort and success, people still feel:

👉 Something is missing

The Invitation of Easter

The resurrection answers that longing:

👉 You were made for more

  • More than fear

  • More than routine

  • More than just getting by

Jesus offers what Scripture calls:

👉 “New life” — a fresh start and a new direction

Two Roads: Which One Are You On?

At the end of this message, we are left with a choice:

The Road of Despair

  • Hopeless

  • Fearful

  • Directionless

The Road of Life

  • Hope-filled

  • Purpose-driven

  • Walking with Jesus

Final Thought

The resurrection is not just something to celebrate…

👉 It’s something to step into

Because when Jesus rose from the dead:

  • Death lost its power

  • Hope became real

  • Life became available

And that changes everything.
