Learning to be Patient

1. Steve talked about learning how to be patient with yourself, with others, and with God. Of those three, which do you struggle with the most? Why?

2. Read Romans 8:28-29. How do those verses speak to you about learning to be patient with yourself? How do you treat yourself when you don't measure up to your own expectations?

3. It's been said, "God loves us just the way we are but he loves us too much to leave us that way." How do you feel about that statement? How do you think God changes us?

4. Read 1 Corinthians 13:4 & Ephesians 4:2. What kind of people do you find it easy to be patient with? What kind of people drive you crazy?

5. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:14. Notice that Paul discusses how to respond to different kinds of people. Do you feel like you know how to assess where people are at in order to help them? If so give us an example?

6. Of these five categories of people which do you find most difficult to have patience with?

  • Angry or rude people.

  • Loud people? The kind of people who walk into a space regardless of where it is speaking loudly on their cell phones?

  • Horrible drivers?

  • People who are always in a hurry?

  • People who are always late?

7. Read Psalms 37:7. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being great and 1 being terrible, how are you when it comes to waiting on the Lord?

8. If you're being honest, what area in your life are you most impatient with God? Why do you think you struggle in that area? Do you feel like you are making progress?

9. Read 2 Peter 3:9. Is there an area in your life where you feel God has been slow in responding to you? Tell us about that.
