It has been said that crisis builds character. Well, this is sometimes true and sometimes not. What is universally true is that crisis always reveals character. Crisis will also strengthen our faith or expose our lack of it. Every time!
Read Psalms 107:29-32. How do you interpret what the Psalmist is saying?
Read 2 Chronicles 20:6-9. and name seven statements from the text that should boost our faith in the midst of a crisis.
Read 2 Chronicles 20:10-12. What do you do when you don’t know what to do? Can you think of a time when you expressed to God that you were helpless and didn't know what to do? How did things turn out?
Fundamentally people have four primary fears: 1. Scarcity, “Will there be enough?”
Read Matthew 6:25-32. How does this speak to a scarcity mentality?
The second primary fear is insignificance, “Do I matter?”
Read Ephesians 2:10. How does this scripture speak to our purpose or our value?
The third primary fear is failure. “Will this lead to rejection, hardship, or failure?
How does failure affect you? Everyone fails sometimes but the question is, “Are you able to overcome your failures and learn from them?
The fourth fear is pain. How much hurt or suffering will I experience?
What type of pain do you fear the most? a. Physical b. Emotional c. Relational d. Financial?
Three keys from the prayers of Jehoshaphat. 1. Praise = declarative surrender. What you start with determines your mood, your perspective and your outcome. 2. Remember and rehearse. We proclaim our faith rather than our situation. 3. He confesses that he is powerless and places his trust in God.
What storm is derailing you currently? What fear is hell enhancing during this storm? In what ways does it seem like Jesus is asleep and unaware of your plight? What do you believe enabled Jesus to sleep on the boat during the storm? How can you employ that in your life?
