God Only Knows
One of my favorite Beach Boys songs is “God Only Knows.” There is so much we don’t know—but God knows what we don’t know. That’s why we should pray with confidence, because in many cases God only knows what to do and how to answer our prayers.
That being said, why is it that prayer is often our last resort after we’ve tried everything else? Many Christians are not utilizing the power of prayer—to their own detriment and frustration. There is nothing in the Bible that says unless it’s urgent prayer isn’t necessary. Why wouldn’t we bring every problem and every need to God? After all, if God only knows, He’s the key to answering your prayers.
Could it be that you don’t think God will answer your prayers? Here’s what I’ve discovered: prayer is my greatest resource. It doesn’t cost us anything, and yet so many people don’t pray about the things that are important to them—things like financial struggles, relationship problems, sickness, fear, depression, job opportunities, career changes, moving to new locations, or problems with the kids.
One hundred percent of the prayers you’ve never prayed will not be answered. If you have doubts about your prayers being answered, I challenge you to start a prayer journal. Every time God answers a prayer, make note of it. Pretty soon you’ll begin to notice that God is answering more of your prayers than you realize.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing…” This doesn’t mean you literally pray all day long—but kind of. I find myself praying about every meeting I walk into. I pray before I get on the road. I pray about lots of things while I’m driving. Don’t worry—I keep my eyes open!
Here’s the beautiful truth: God answers most of my prayers. Not always the way I want Him to, and not always when I want Him to—but God faithfully answers my prayers.
You know who doesn’t want you to pray? Yep—Satan and all his minions. Satan knows that when we pray, God shows up in our lives, and that’s the last thing he wants. In John 10:10 Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
God only knows why so many Christians don’t take advantage of heaven’s resources. After reading this article, why don’t you take a couple of minutes to pray? Pray like you mean it. Pray about what you really need from God. Get honest with God about what’s going on inside of you. The answers to your prayers may be only a prayer away.
Stay close to Jesus,
Steve
