Give Clean Water

This past Sunday, Pacific Life Church had the joy of welcoming Pastor Darrel Larson, founder of Give Clean Water. He shared both a powerful message from Scripture and a testimony of how God is using simple resources—like clean water filters—to change lives around the world.

While our When In Romans series takes a short pause this week, Darrel’s message was a timely reminder that God can do immeasurably more than we imagine when we offer Him what we have.

The God Who Multiplies What We Bring

Darrel taught from Mark 6:30–44, the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. The disciples felt overwhelmed by the need before them, but Jesus simply asked, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”

  • The disciples found only five loaves and two fish.

  • In Jesus’ hands, this small offering fed thousands.

  • God doesn’t ask us to bring what we don’t have—He asks us to bring what we do have.

The lesson is clear: don’t focus on what you lack; focus on what God can do with what you already have.

A Story from Fiji: Clean Water and Changed Lives

Darrel shared how Give Clean Water began 18 years ago in Fiji, during a time of political unrest. Villages were suffering from waterborne illness, and families were desperate for help. With just a few portable water filters, the team began providing clean drinking water—one family at a time.

What started with two filters has now grown into a ministry that has provided access to clean water for over 29 million people worldwide.

Recently, through Pacific Life Church’s support, two villages in Fiji received filters. The results were dramatic:

  • Health improvements: Diarrhea and other waterborne illnesses virtually disappeared.

  • Financial relief: Families saved significantly on medical costs.

  • Education restored: Children stopped missing school due to sickness.

  • Hope renewed: Villages experienced the love of Jesus in both word and deed.

This is a living example of what it means to hear Jesus’ words: “I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink” (Matthew 25:35).

What Does This Mean for Us?

Darrel challenged us to think about how we can live out our faith in tangible ways.

  • Use what you have. Don’t dwell on what you lack—offer what God has already placed in your hands.

  • Be a good neighbor. Like the Good Samaritan, show compassion to those around you, even when it’s inconvenient.

  • Join “Team Sheep.” In Matthew 25, Jesus describes the sheep as those who fed the hungry, gave water to the thirsty, and cared for the sick. Choose to live as one of His sheep.

  • Step into missional spaces. Whether it’s local service or global outreach, ask: Where can I be the hands and feet of Jesus?

Closing Challenge

God doesn’t call us to do everything. But He does call us to do something—with the resources, gifts, and time we already have. Just like the disciples with five loaves and two fish, we are invited to trust Jesus with what seems small and watch Him multiply it for His kingdom.
