Enjoy God’s Creation (Sermon Blog)

Series Introduction:
We began our new series History with a fresh look at the opening chapter of Genesis. In this first message, Pastor Steve invited us to approach the creation story with humility, curiosity, and childlike wonder. Before debating timelines or theories, we were encouraged to slow down, listen carefully, and allow creation itself to speak about the character and heart of God. Genesis reminds us that the world was created intentionally, beautifully, and for our good.

In the Beginning, God Created

Genesis opens with a simple but profound statement:

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Before anything else existed:

  • God already was

  • God existed outside of time

  • God chose to create

Creation did not happen by accident. It flowed from the nature of God Himself—because God is a Creator.

Approaching Creation With Fresh Eyes

Pastor Steve encouraged us to set aside rigid assumptions and approach Genesis with openness.

  • Some view creation through a young-earth lens

  • Others through an old-earth perspective

  • These differences are not salvation issues

What matters most is recognizing:

  • God is the Creator

  • Creation reflects His power, design, and glory

The goal is not to argue, but to worship the God who made all things.

Creation Declares God’s Glory

Scripture repeatedly tells us that creation speaks.

  • “The heavens declare the glory of God.” (Psalm 19:1)

  • God’s invisible qualities are clearly seen through what He has made (Romans 1:20)

When we slow down and notice creation:

  • Our hearts are stirred

  • Our souls are reminded of God’s presence

  • Awe leads us toward worship

Beauty points beyond itself to the One who made it.

God Speaks Order Out of Chaos

Genesis describes the earth as formless and empty, yet the Spirit of God was already hovering.

This reminds us:

  • God specializes in bringing life from chaos

  • God speaks order where there is confusion

  • God creates something out of nothing

Wherever God’s Spirit is present, life, beauty, and purpose begin to emerge.

Jesus Was Present at Creation

Creation was not the work of God the Father alone.

Scripture teaches:

  • Jesus was present in the beginning (John 1:1–3)

  • All things were created through Him (Colossians 1:15–16)

Creation is a work of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—working together in perfect unity.

God Created a World Meant to Be Enjoyed

As Genesis unfolds, we see God filling the world with beauty and variety:

  • Light and darkness

  • Sky and seas

  • Land and vegetation

  • Sun, moon, and stars

  • Fish, birds, animals

  • Humanity, created in God’s image

After creating humanity, God declared His work not just good, but very good.

Creation was designed not only for function, but for joy, wonder, and delight.

Humanity: The Crown of Creation

Human beings were created uniquely:

  • In the image of God

  • Male and female

  • With purpose and responsibility

God entrusted humanity to:

  • Govern creation

  • Care for the earth

  • Steward what He made

We are not here by accident. We were created intentionally, lovingly, and with meaning.

Enjoyment and Responsibility Go Together

God invited humanity to:

  • Enjoy creation

  • Care for creation

  • Live within the rhythms God established

Day and night.
Seasons.
Work and rest.

These rhythms remind us that God designed life to be lived with balance and gratitude.

God Invites Us to Rest

Genesis closes with God resting on the seventh day.

This wasn’t because God was tired, but because:

  • Rest is holy

  • Rest is a gift

  • Rest is part of God’s design

God invites us to slow down, step away from distraction, and enjoy what He has made.

Key Takeaways From Genesis 1

As Pastor Steve concluded, we were reminded:

  • We are not accidents

  • Creation is good

  • God set healthy rhythms for life

  • Humanity bears God’s image

  • Creation points us back to the Creator

When we pause to enjoy God’s creation, we are reminded how deeply loved we are.

The History series continues with Part 2 next week.
