Christ In You (Sermon Blog)
One of the greatest mysteries in the Bible isn't something hidden from us—it's something revealed to us: Christ in you.
When Paul wrote to the believers in Colossae, false teachers were claiming that spiritual maturity came through secret knowledge beyond Jesus. Paul boldly corrected that idea by declaring that the greatest treasure isn't hidden knowledge at all—it's Christ Himself living within every believer.
In Colossians 1:24–2:5, Paul shares three powerful truths that help us grow into mature followers of Christ.
1. We Joyfully Suffer to Help People Mature in Christ
At first glance, suffering and joy seem like opposites. Yet Paul writes from a Roman prison with genuine joy because he knows his suffering is helping others grow in their faith.
Leading someone to Christ is only the beginning. Helping them mature often requires patience, sacrifice, prayer, and perseverance.
Paul understood this firsthand. Before becoming a follower of Jesus, he persecuted Christians. After encountering Christ on the road to Damascus, his entire life changed. The man who once caused suffering for the Church became willing to suffer for the Church.
As believers, we're called to invest in others by:
Encouraging them in their faith.
Walking alongside them through difficult seasons.
Praying for them consistently.
Helping them become mature followers of Jesus.
There may be challenges along the way, but there is also incredible joy in seeing lives transformed by Christ.
2. The Secret of the Gospel Is Not Hidden Knowledge—It Is Christ in You
False teachers in Colossae insisted there was a deeper spiritual knowledge beyond Jesus. Paul responds by revealing the true mystery:
"Christ in you, the hope of glory."
The Christian life isn't about chasing new spiritual experiences or discovering hidden truths. It's about continually discovering the immeasurable riches already found in Christ.
Paul reminds us:
Christ lives within every believer.
Our hope is found in Him.
Everything we need for spiritual growth is found in Him.
Instead of searching for something "more," we're invited to know Jesus more deeply.
As our relationship with Christ grows, we discover that He is more than enough.
3. Receive Christ, Then Keep Walking with Christ
Receiving Jesus is the beginning of the journey—not the finish line. Paul longed to see believers continue growing in faith, remaining united in love, and becoming spiritually mature.
One of the greatest dangers for Christians is spiritual drift. It rarely happens overnight. More often, people slowly stop walking with Jesus until they find themselves far from where they once were.
Paul encourages believers to remain rooted in Christ by:
Staying connected to God's people.
Reading and studying God's Word.
Spending time in prayer.
Encouraging one another.
Guarding against false teaching.
Continuing to grow in their relationship with Jesus.
As Pastor Steve reminded us, Jesus isn't just someone we believe in—He's someone we continue walking with every day.
Is Jesus Enough?
Near the end of the message, Pastor Steve asked a simple but challenging question:
Is Jesus enough for you?
Our culture constantly encourages us to chase the next trend, the next philosophy, or the next spiritual experience. But Paul reminds us that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ.
We don't need to look beyond Jesus.
The deeper we walk with Him, the more we discover His love, His wisdom, His grace, and His power.
Final Thoughts
The mystery has been revealed.
Christ lives in you.
That truth changes everything.
As we joyfully help others grow, remain rooted in Christ instead of chasing empty philosophies, and continue walking with Him day after day, we'll discover the richness of the life He offers.
